- Basic description of duties: The Range Control Patrol Sgt exists to help maintain the safety of the Dundurn Range and Training area as well as the management of the Range Control Facilities and Assets. As well, they will assist in ensuring that all Range Practices and Training is conversant with B-GL-381-001 Range and Training Safety.
This is a supervisory position in which the incumbent is responsible for:
This positions are critical to the safe and effective operation of 17 Wing Detachment Dundurn's Ranges and Training Areas (RTA). They are responsible to assist the Range Control Team ICs in conducting security and range training safety patrols of the range and training areas (RTAs) as well as the permanent danger areas (PDAs) within the Detachment's areas of responsibility for such things as trespass, illegal dumping and poaching. These positions are essential to ensuring that user units are operating in the RTA IAW all applicable orders and instructions, and ensuring that no unauthorized travel within the training area and PDAs is occurring. These positions serve as the primary detection source for environmental issues as they pertain to the training areas. These positions also conducts security patrols with the Detachment Auxiliary Security Force while conducting security operations in support of the Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot Dundurn and are critical to range firefighting operations;
a) Ensuring that due diligence is practiced within all range and training areas of the Det Dundurn AOR;
b) Ensuring that Range Control Equipment and vehicles are properly maintained in an operable condition;
c) participate in regular patrols to ensure the security of the training and impact areas; &
d) assist in the conduction of Range Inspections and Clearances of all user units utilizing the Dundurn range and training areas;
The member is directly accountable to "position" (#18239 17 Wing Detachment Dundurn's mission is to enable operational success through the effective and efficient stewardship of CFB Saskatchewan The impact on the CF if this positions are not reinstated is: dependencies the loss of DND oversight and control over 22,000 Square KM of Training Area, the inability of user units to utilize the Dundurn RTA for training due to the unacceptable risk of either environmental damage or breaches of safe training practices- thus violating several SLAs; and the loss of experienced 2IC leadership on the Auxiliary Security Force, thus seriously impacting the Force Protection of the Det to respond to current threats to the CFB Det Dundurn base proper- ie the threat to CFAD and the capability of auxiliary firefighting reconnaissance and leadership functions.
