- Secondary requirements of position, as applic: The work environment for instructors includes field and garrison, as well as working in other geographic areas for limited periods. Training plans require instructors to conduct occasional overnight duty in both field and garrison environments as well as occasional evening and weekend duties. Between courses, the general work schedule will be 0800 – 1600 hrs.
- Basic description of duties: The primary responsibility of the instructor is to execute the activities of a formal course in accordance with the Qualification Standard and Training Plan (QS/TP) and as follows. Work effectively within a team environment. Instructors must effectively communicate with other staff, support elements, and the chain of command.
Ensure instructional materials are accurate, appropriate, and IAW the QS/TP. Review the EOs found in the TP and ensure that courseware aligns, references are accurate, and material is current. Report any discrepancies and recommend solutions through the End Course Review (ECR) to Standards.
Teach, coach and mentor students. Convey a positive attitude towards teaching the students, ensuring they understand the goals and content of the lessons. manage students’ wellbeing and give them guidance when learning course material. Identify weaknesses, then provide constructive feedback and actionable plans to allow improvement.
Manage issues between students and resolve conflicts at the lowest level.
Implement and adhere to course schedules.
Keep accurate assessments/reports on student performance and maintain organized course files. Conduct student interviews, write and deliver weekly feedback, warnings, and recommendations for any Honours and Awards as necessary. Participate in PRBs as required.
Complete/Contribute to reports and returns as necessary: CF98s; DND663s; missing and loss report for members that lose equipment on the TE/TC account; feedback notes on subordinates that are not candidates on the course; course critiques; and ECRs.
Learn the roles and responsibilities of superior course staff and be ready to assume their role when necessary.
Other tasks as assigned by the Course Officer and 2IC under which the course is being conducted.
