Courses:
Quals: Members not meeting the language requirements of the position may be considered. Priority will be given to those applicants meeting the linguistic requirements. The upcoming Joint Directive on OLA Modernization will guide CAF leadership on integrating new OLA provisions and workplace mitigation measures. CAF policies are being aligned so supervisors in bilingual regions either meet language requirements or have mitigation measures in place. Possible mitigation measures include using bilingual delegates, communication agreements, translation support, formal documentation of measures, and regular reviews to ensure compliance.
Competency Remarks:
Experience:
a) Experience on or supporting deployed operations strongly recommended;
b) Experience as Staff Officer at Operational or Strategic Headquarters helpful;
c) Experience with Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) a plus; and
d) Experience with Information Management, archival practices and procedures, or production of written histories are useful.
Knowledge:
a) Knowledge of DND organization, operations, and procedures are essential; and
b) Must be able to learn quickly and adapt to a variety of tasks and requirements, often on short notice.

- Basic description of duties: The War Diaries Officer is responsible for all matters relating to the assigned areas of responsibility.
The Operational Records Officer's duties are to:
Responsible for supervising the War Diaries/Operational Records collection process.
Support units deployed on operations in creating their diaries.
Follow-up with deployed units in theater, or track down missing War Diary submissions.
Identify areas for improvement and implement solutions in War Diaries process.
Responsible for War Diary physical asset lifecycle management. Pursue digitization of paper materials, preservation of electronic media formats (CD's, floppy disks, digital tapes, etc.), and safeguarding digital holdings.
Responsible for maintenance of War Diaries shielded enclosure.
Advise and assist Directorate of History and Heritage (DHH) historians and external researchers by providing access to War Diaries when appropriate, coordinate research visits.
Be DHH SME on War Diary procedures, holdings, and contents. Regularly brief DHH Chain of Command (CoC) on project status and provide advice when required.
Responsible for War Diaries team responses to inquiries and Access to Information Requests.
Act as direct supervisor for the War Diaries Supervisor (Sgt), act as section head for all War Diaries personnel.
Responsible for entries on Canada.ca Past Operations Database.

Maintain working relationship with elemental historical sections (notably RCAF and RCN) to coordinate on War Diary requirements.
Ensure compliance with DSCDS 1330, ensuring that War Diaries from operations for which official histories have been written (or deemed by DHH Chief Historian will not be written) are sent to Library and Archives Canada (LAC).
Supervise War Diaries team in process and coordinate delivery with National Information Disposition Services and LA
