- Secondary requirements of position, as applic: Trained weather observer, working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel is required.
- Basic description of duties: The Weather Observer is employed as part of the Meteorological Section within the Intelligence Flight. The primary responsibilities are to observe and record surface weather conditions; process, analyze and interpret meteorological information; operate and maintain specialized meteorological instruments and equipment; brief wing personnel on actual and expected weather conditions; and disseminate forecasted weather conditions. To provide continuous weather watch, Weather Observers are required to work on rotational shifts.
Accountabilities
a.The Weather Observer is responsible to the Meteorological Section IC for:
1.Preparing and presenting weather information;
2.Providing a continuous weather watch;
3.Receiving and disseminating general aviation related information to all pilots and operations staff;
4.Preparing, encoding and transmitting surface weather and PIREP observations in accordance with procedures and regulations as laid out in Environment Canada Manobs;
5.Interacting with the Forecaster in the production of the Terminal aerodrome Forecast and weather warnings, when required;
6.Preparing and disseminating flight plans;
7.Conducting daily quality control checks of the weather observing program as laid out in Manobs;
8.Ensuring all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time;
9.Visibly demonstrating Meteorological Technician values and work practices while completing duties; and
10.All other related duties relevant to this position as stated in unit SOP's.
b.The Tactical Weather Specialist is accountable to the Meteorological Section IC for:
1.Maintaining a healthy work environment; and
2.Providing their availability to work all shifts based upon a priority of those shifts as established by the Meteorological Section IC and Tactical Weather Specialist Supervisor.

C. Selection process will be IAW ACOs 5006-15/5006-17 and considered in the fol order of precedence:
(1) Air Reservist, Air DEU P Res and Air DEU Reg F Pers at the substantive rank of the position /Air Reservists and DEU P Res pers one rank below the rank of the position, who are eligible for immediate promotion;
(2) other Reg F and P Res pers, Cadet Organisations Administration and Training service (COATS), Canadian Rangers (CR) and Supp Res at the substantive rank of the posn, willing to transfer to the air reserve and change environmental affiliation if selected; or
(3) P Res or Reg F pers over ranked by one rank, willing to permanently relinquish their rank, shall only be considered in those exceptional cases where no qualified as per para a and/or b is available.
D. Should no suitable candidate from para 2 be found, the fol selection prioritization will be used: mbr one rank below but not eligible from immediate promotion in order of:
(1) Air Res, Air Deu Pres and Air Deu Reg F pers; and
(2) Reg F pers, other P Res pers, members of the coats, CR and Supp Res, willing to transfer to the air res and change environmental affiliation if selected.
